Why Blog, Explained by Seth Godin and Tom Peters

Recently I came across a discussion on LinkedIn on 'why people blog'. Before you click through to the link, think about (if you blog), why do you blog? I thought I a fairly simple answer to the question, but after reading through the comments, I soon realize that I blog for more than one reason.

According to Wikipedia, a Blog can be a type of website, or part of a website that is usually maintained by an individual. Blogs are meant to be interactive, allowing visitors to leave comments and even message each other via widgets on the blogs and it is this interactivity that distinguishes them from other static websites.

So you might wonder… Why do I blog?

My answer to that question would be: to share my knowledge and research about my niche. What we talk about is usually what we tell others, 'this is what interests me'. Then you create a conversation around it. I also use my blog to answer questions that my clients ask me, or I would write a post on something that I think my readers would find interesting. I think in most cases people will arrive at your blog because they were referred somehow by someone or a search engine, telling them that this is where they will find the answers to their questions.

    That's an excellent video, Jackson.
I started blogging in Feb 2007 to share ideas. I soon found that blogging changed me. By blogging, you're giving. By giving, you're becoming more generous. You stand out and attract people to you. That helps you keep going.
PS Blogging also improves your thinking.
